A pioneer in teaching methods, the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) is building a scale-able and robust educational platform using innovative technologies and teaching methods that can be incorporated into medical school curriculum’s, residencies, fellowships, and continuing medical education. The Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Modules® are 2.5-day, intensive clinical programs, each focused on one physiological system within the Functional Medicine Matrix Model.
IFM relies on Digitell to live stream the events to the hundreds of practitioners unable to attend the physical events. Because these virtual audiences are often larger than the physical ones, IFM was looking for a way to add value to their Sponsors ability to reach, and converse with, the virtual audience.
In response, IFM conceived of a great solution—an engaging online chat feature where virtual attendees could interact with the exhibitors virtually. So they once again turned to their Live Streaming partner Digitell for a solution. Digitell custom-built and introduced the feature under the name “Chat Lobby.”
Chat Lobbies are simple, but powerful, ways of allowing virtual attendees to interact and engage with the Sponsoring companies. They go live during breaks in the educational program—periods when attendees of the virtual event would otherwise sit idle. Through the Chat Lobbies, virtual attendees can converse with sponsors in real time, asking them the very same kinds of questions attendees of the physical event do when they visit the exhibits. Sponsors staff the Chat Lobbies remotely, employing salespeople equally qualified to the reps staffing the physical exhibits.
Chat Lobbies proved to be a hit with Sponsors right from the very first break and all the way through the event. Virtual attendees signed in moments after each break began, often in such large numbers that sponsors felt swamped by their interest and attention (a nice problem to have). Sponsors commented that they need to beef up the sales force staffing the lobbies during future events.
Based upon the success of these “Chat Lobby’s”, IFM plans to roll them out at all six of its clinical programs, and to work with Digitell to enhance the feature by adding capabilities for Sponsors to host webinars and house slideshows, videos, podcasts and sales collateral in the lobbies.
“Although I don’t believe anyone else in our industry has done this before, I consider the launch of Chat Lobbies only a ‘baby step’ in providing Sponsors with more opportunities to deliver content to our attendees. I’m grateful we have Digitell as a partner. They’re innovative and creative—and eager about helping us maximize opportunities for Sponsors.”
